More About Scented Soy Candles

Scented soy candles are made by using soy wax which is a hydrogenated soybean oil. Soy wax came about through research trying to find a more cost effective wax than the traditional beeswax that is commonly used for candle making. Michael Richards was the researcher and he discovered, soon after soy wax came into being, that there was a desire from both candle manufactures and candle makers for this candle wax that was more natural.

These types of candles are produced when you mix different fragrances with the soy wax. These candles can be found online from various websites, at some grocery stores and at specialized stores that sell candles. More and more people are discovering the benefits and the joy of creating their own soy candles. If you are making your own beeswax or paraffin based candles; you will be amazed at the difference and the ease of making your candles out of soy. You may want to try them; you may just discover you like them.

There are some benefits from purchasing or making your own candles. They do not cost that much to create and they are environmentally more correct than paraffin based candles; that may or may not be important to you. Now depending on where you purchase your supplies, some of them may be a bit more than the paraffin wax variety. The cost savings would actually come into being when you use the candles. Soy candles will last longer than beeswax or paraffin based candles.

There is a logical reason for the length of time a candle will last; the wax melts at a lower temperature. That gives the candle a better scent throw, meaning the aroma gets into the air that much faster. Now since it burns at a lower temperature the wax will last longer meaning the candle does not burn away as fast. Another benefit of this candle is there is not near the black soot that is so common with a paraffin-based candle. That is actually one of my favorite features of a scented soy candles; no more black soot or at least it is minimized to a great extent.

Even though I prefer the soy candle, I will admit that beeswax is also a better candle than the paraffin-based candle. The problem with beeswax, like paraffin candles, they will cost you more in the long run. Remember I said earlier that soy candles will last longer and burn cooler than either the beeswax or the paraffin based candles. The choice is still yours and there are actually times where I will use a paraffin candle over a soy candle.

A soy candle is softer than a paraffin-based candle so they do not make very good free standing pillar candles, I will opt for a paraffin candle in these situations. However, you can add a hardener to the soy wax that will make it stand up straighter. Again that is a choice you will have to make on your own. I just want to make sure you understand some of the differences between the types of candles.

Now soy candles because they are all natural, are the choice candles from people that are more concerned about the environment. Paraffin based candles are created from a byproduct of the petroleum industry and they will produce a bit of CO2 when they burn; soy candles will not.

Another cool thing about soy candles, actually all candles, is that you you can readily mix the wax with Aromatherapy essential oils which some people claim can improve both your health and in some cases your beauty. I do not know if that is the case or not, I just like the smell of the different oils. One of the more common oils to add to scented soy candles is lavender. Some people say that the lavender scent is responsible for helping you relax. I actually think that it does. Then again, it may just be me wanting to relax and convincing myself that the lavender scent is helping me.

The last thing I want to say about a scented soy candle is that if you happen to knock one over, and you will, the wax is an easy matter to clean up. Just get some warm water, dish soap and a rag to wipe up the mess. Try that when you spill a beeswax or paraffin-based candle. With those spills, you usually grab a kitchen knife or a razor blade.

Scented soy candles and aromatherapy just seem to be the right fit. If you are interested in reading some enjoyable information, on the different types of candles, or just learn how to make them yourself, Scented Soy Candles.
